Speeding Water Tanker Crushes 7-Year-Old Boy to Death in Karachi, Driver Arrested

Karachi: A speeding water tanker claimed the life of a seven-year-old boy in Karachi’s Manghopir area, adding to the growing number of fatal accidents involving heavy vehicles in the city. The driver of the tanker has been arrested.

According to Express News, the tragic incident occurred in Ghareeb Nawaz Colony, within the limits of Manghopir Police Station, where a fast-moving water tanker struck and killed a minor child. The body was shifted to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital through an Edhi ambulance for legal formalities. The deceased child was identified as seven-year-old Arif, son of Ghulam Abbas.

Following the incident, Manghopir police took immediate action, impounded the water tanker, and arrested the driver, identified as Wazir Muhammad, son of Qadrun Shah.

At Abbasi Shaheed Hospital, the victim’s father, Ghulam Abbas, said that Arif’s mother had passed away three years ago and that the deceased was the youngest among two brothers. He explained that the water tanker had just finished supplying water in the street and was reversing when it ran over his son, who was playing outside their home.

He further stated that the driver was wearing a hands-free device in his ear, which prevented him from hearing people shouting to warn him. Despite residents raising an alarm, the driver did not stop in time.

The grieving father alleged that water tanker drivers, driven by the lure of money, are recklessly endangering lives. He demanded justice and called for strict legal action not only against the arrested driver but also against the tanker’s owners.
