Opposition Leader Younus Aziz Zehri Says JUI Ready to Contest Local Elections, Accuses Govt of Evading Polls

Quetta: Opposition Leader of the Balochistan Assembly, Mir Younus Aziz Zehri, has accused ruling parties of trying to delay local government elections to cover up their failures. He asserted that Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (JUI) is fully prepared for the elections and confident of securing victory.
Speaking to journalists after a Balochistan Assembly session, Zehri stated, “Whenever the opposition has the majority to change the government, we will do so, but we will not lend our support to anyone else’s agenda. While there are concerns regarding law and order, it is the government’s responsibility to ensure peace and provide protection to the public.”
He added that earlier the opposition had proposed postponing the elections, but the government ignored their suggestions. “Today we are fully prepared for the elections, but the ruling parties are using various excuses to evade them. The government should take action to maintain law and order,” Zehri emphasized.
Responding to a question, he noted that the effects of Form 47 are visible in the local elections, urging the Election Commission to ensure free and fair polls, warning that failure to do so could lead the public to reject the elections again.
Regarding potential government changes, Zehri said, “If the opposition secures the required numbers, we will step in to remove the government. However, we will neither lend our support to anyone else nor help anyone become Chief Minister with our votes.”
