Pakistan Announces Film “Mera Lyari” in Response to Indian Propaganda Movie “Dharandhar,” Fans Excited

Karachi: Pakistan has announced the release of a new film titled Mera Lyari next month in response to what it has described as Indian propaganda presented in the film Dharandhar.
Sindh Information Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon announced the project, stating that Mera Lyari aims to counter the negative portrayal of Karachi’s historic Lyari neighborhood shown in the Indian film. He said Dharandhar is another example of propaganda targeting Pakistan and Lyari.
Indian movie Dhurandhar is yet another example of negative propaganda by the Indian film industry against Pakistan, especially targeting Lyari. Lyari is not violence—it is culture, peace, talent, and resilience. Next month Mera Lyari will release, showing the true face of Lyari:… pic.twitter.com/v2FsVMfWsB

In a post on social media platform X, Sharjeel Inam Memon said that Lyari is not a symbol of violence but a hub of culture, peace, talent, and resilience. He added that Mera Lyari will present the true image of the area, highlighting peace, prosperity, and pride.
Social media users have also reacted positively to the announcement. A user, Awais Suleman, wrote that false narratives can never erase reality, adding that unlike propaganda films such as Dharandhar, Mera Lyari will soon present the real story of Lyari’s culture, pride, and prosperity to the world.

Another user commented that Dharandhar is yet another negative portrayal of Pakistan and Lyari, while Mera Lyari will showcase the true dignity, peace, and pride of the area.
MeraLyari@sharjeelinam pic.twitter.com/GgPKaMgLxL— Imtaiz ali Babar (@ImtaizBabar) December 15, 2025
The film features Danyalir Mubeen, Samiya Mumtaz, Ayesha Omar, and Adnan Shah Tipu in key roles. Ayesha Omar is also serving as the executive producer, while the film is directed by Abu Aleeha.
Earlier, a constitutional petition was also filed in Karachi’s district and sessions court against Dharandhar. The petitioner, a supporter of the Pakistan Peoples Party, alleged unauthorized use of footage showing former prime minister and PPP chairperson Benazir Bhutto, party flags, and party rallies in the film.
Mera Lyari is expected to offer a cultural and narrative rebuttal to the Indian film and bring forward the authentic story of one of Karachi’s most vibrant neighborhoods.
