Sindh Rangers Arrest Extortion Suspect Linked to Samad Kathiawari Group in Karachi

KARACHI — Sindh Rangers, acting on intelligence reports, arrested an extortion suspect linked to the Samad Kathiawari group during a targeted operation in New Karachi. The suspect, identified as Amir Hamza, son of Hamid Hussain, was taken into custody, and a mobile phone was recovered from his possession.
According to details, the accused had been associated since 2019 with Lyari gang war commander Abdul Samad’s frontman, Yusuf alias Mota. During interrogation, Amir Hamza revealed that in July 2024, he accompanied Yusuf alias Mota to demand extortion from a builder. A local resident from Old Lyari had provided a pistol to Yusuf for the crime, and throughout the incident, Yusuf remained in constant contact with commander Abdul Samad through WhatsApp.
Upon reaching a construction site in Kharadar, Yusuf handed an extortion slip to a laborer while Amir Hamza fired a shot at the worker’s leg. Rangers later arrested both Yusuf alias Mota and Amir Hamza. However, Amir Hamza was released on bail three months later and reportedly traveled to Yusuf’s native village, Phulji, Dadu, where he stayed for a week.
The suspect also provided contact numbers of various factory owners to Yusuf and Abdul Samad for extortion purposes. Rangers said raids are ongoing to track down additional suspects involved in the extortion network.
The arrested suspect, along with recovered items, has been handed over to the police for further legal action.
Residents are urged to report any criminal activity to the nearest Rangers checkpoint or through the Rangers helpline 1101 and WhatsApp number 0347-9001111. The identity of informants will be kept confidential.
