IHC Reserves Verdict on Petition Challenging PPP MNA Jamal Raisani’s Voter Registration

**Islamabad (Qudrat News):** The **Islamabad High Court (IHC)** has reserved its verdict on a petition challenging the voter registration of **Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP)** Member of the National Assembly **Jamal Raisani**. The hearing was conducted by **Justice Azam Khan**, who reserved the decision after arguments from both sides were completed.
The petitioner’s counsel, **Advocate Munawar Iqbal**, argued that the registration of Jamal Raisani’s vote was in **clear violation of the Constitution of Pakistan and the Election Act 2017**, as the **deadline for voter registration was October 28, 2023**, while Raisani’s **national identity card was issued in December 2023**. He further contended that the **Election Commission of Pakistan’s (ECP)** move to register Raisani’s vote on **January 12, 2024**, was **unconstitutional and illegal**.
However, the **ECP’s counsel** maintained that there is a **specific constitutional procedure (Articles 62 and 63)** for **disqualifying an elected member of parliament**, which must be initiated through the **Speaker of the National Assembly**, and that the **court cannot directly disqualify** a sitting MNA.
During the proceedings, **Jamal Raisani and his counsel did not appear** before the court. Justice Azam Khan remarked that **no decision could be made without hearing the elected representative**. Meanwhile, the **Additional Attorney General**, representing the **Speaker National Assembly**, requested additional time to file a response.
According to sources, the **court’s decision is expected in the coming days**, and it **may have implications for Jamal Raisani’s parliamentary membership**.
