Interesting Exchange Between Judges and Lawyers During Super Tax Case Hearing

ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court witnessed an engaging exchange between judges and lawyers during the hearing of the super tax case on Monday. The five-member constitutional bench, headed by Justice Amin-ud-Din Khan, heard arguments and later adjourned the proceedings until tomorrow.

During the hearing, senior lawyer **Farogh Naseem**, representing various companies, argued that no new tax could be imposed after the prescribed date. Justice Muhammad Ali Mazhar questioned why the issue remained unresolved, noting that the same problem kept resurfacing.

Justice Jamal Mandokhail observed that, under the NFC Award, taxes other than sales tax could also be levied. In response, Farogh Naseem reiterated that no new tax could be applied after the deadline had passed.

A lighthearted moment occurred when Justice Mandokhail smiled and said to the lawyer, “Let me butter you up—you’re presenting excellent arguments.” Naseem quipped back, “Then let me butter you too—I’ve never seen such a fine hearing.”

Justice Amin-ud-Din Khan remarked that judges face significant pressure during proceedings, to which Naseem responded, “No judge has the authority to insult a lawyer.” He praised Justices Muhammad Ali Mazhar and Shahid Bilal Hassan for their patience and composure.

Another lawyer, **Hafiz Ehsan Khokhar**, added that lawyers expect their arguments to be heard with dignity and respect.

The hearing was adjourned until **9:30 AM tomorrow**, when Farogh Naseem is scheduled to continue his arguments.
