Saudi Arabia Freezes Rent Hikes in Riyadh for Five Years to Ease Financial Pressure on Residents

Riyadh: In a major relief measure, Saudi Arabia has announced that rents for residential and commercial properties in the capital city, Riyadh, will remain unchanged for the next five years. The decision applies to both Saudi nationals and foreign residents.
The Saudi Ministry of Housing stated that the move is aimed at making Riyadh a more livable city while reducing the financial burden on citizens. By capping rent increases, the government intends to provide significant relief to middle- and low-income households struggling with rising living costs.
Under the new directive, all existing and new tenancy contracts in Riyadh will remain fixed at their current rates for five years, preventing landlords from raising rents during this period.
Property prices and rents in Saudi Arabia have been rising sharply in recent years, making affordable housing a growing concern. Economic experts say the decision reflects the government’s Vision 2030 goals, which include transforming Riyadh into a global hub for business and modern urban living.
They added that rent control will not only support residents but also enhance the city’s attractiveness for investment and international talent.
