Palestinian-American Teen Mohamed Ibrahim Released from Israeli Detention After 9 Months

Islamabad (Daily Qudrat) — Mohamed Ibrahim, a 16-year-old Palestinian-American, has been released from an Israeli prison after spending nine months in detention, highlighting the harsh treatment faced by Palestinians in the occupied West Bank.

According to Al Jazeera, Mohamed was arrested in February while visiting his ancestral town of Al-Mazra’a Al-Sharqiya with his family from Florida, USA. During the arrest, Israeli forces reportedly blindfolded and physically assaulted him in front of his parents. He spent his 16th birthday in solitary confinement, enduring severe physical and psychological distress, which caused significant weight loss and skin infections.

Throughout his detention, Mohamed was denied direct contact with his family, who were only able to receive updates through U.S. officials. Israeli authorities justified the arrest by claiming Mohamed had thrown stones at Israeli settlers, allegations that the teen denied, and no evidence of injuries to settlers was produced.

Persistent pressure from American lawmakers and human rights organizations, including a letter from 27 U.S. legislators urging the Trump administration to intervene, eventually led to his release. Mohamed’s parents described the ordeal as “nerve-wracking” and expressed relief at finally being reunited with their child.

The family expressed gratitude to everyone who assisted in securing Mohamed’s release and hoped that no other child or parent would have to endure the suffering they faced.
