Korangi Crossing and Causeway Remain Shut for Third Day Due to Floodwaters; Severe Traffic Jams Paralyze Karachi

KARACHI – Korangi Crossing and EBM Causeway remain closed for the third consecutive day due to heavy water flow in the Malir River, resulting in severe traffic congestion across surrounding areas.
According to reports, intense traffic jams have been observed at key locations including Qayyumabad Chowrangi, Jam Sadiq Bridge, Expressway, Brooks Chowrangi, and Defence Signal. Long queues of vehicles were seen on these routes, turning minutes-long commutes into hours of gridlock. Commuters faced extreme difficulty in reaching their destinations.
Traffic police officials stated that the closure of Korangi Crossing and EBM Causeway due to the overflowing river has shifted the traffic burden onto Qayyumabad Chowrangi and Jam Sadiq Bridge, worsening the situation. Traffic police are deployed at the scene and efforts are underway to manage the situation.
The KPT Interchange Flyover at Qayyumabad also witnessed massive congestion, with vehicles lined up for kilometers.
Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah took notice of the situation and directed authorities to take immediate action to resolve traffic issues in Korangi, Qayyumabad, and nearby areas. He also summoned a detailed report on the closure of Korangi Crossing and EBM Causeway.
DIG Traffic Police Karachi, Peer Muhammad Shah, briefed the Chief Minister and explained that heavy rainwater flow has rendered both the Korangi Crossing and EBM Causeway unsafe for vehicular traffic. As a result, there is immense pressure on alternative routes.
The Chief Minister instructed that alternative routes be provided to citizens and that additional traffic personnel be deployed for guidance. He also directed the Karachi Commissioner and KMC Administrator to extend full cooperation to the traffic police in managing the crisis.
