K-Electric Issues Safety Advisory as Monsoon Rains Hit Karachi

Karachi: As the latest monsoon spell from India reaches Karachi, K-Electric has assured residents that the city’s power supply remains largely stable despite ongoing rainfall.

According to K-Electric spokesperson Imran Rana, only fewer than 60 feeders out of more than 2,100 were temporarily affected during the downpour, and restoration work is already underway. He added that in some low-lying and high-risk areas—particularly those prone to electricity theft—feeders were switched off as a safety precaution to protect lives.

Rana said the utility is on high alert, maintaining close coordination with civic agencies, while its central control room continues to monitor electricity supply across the city. Priority power supply is being ensured for critical facilities, including hospitals and emergency services.

He urged citizens not to touch electrical appliances with wet hands or bare feet and to keep children away from such equipment. Residents were also advised to immediately report any fallen wires to K-Electric’s helpline at 118 and to register individual complaints via social media platforms or the “KE Live” app.

Rana emphasized that protecting human life remains K-Electric’s top priority. Continuous precautionary messages are being disseminated through social media and other channels. He also reminded the public that not only K-Electric’s installations, but also streetlights, internet connections, and traffic signals depend on electricity, making safety measures even more essential during heavy rains.
