Inquiry Launched After Frog Found in Meal Served to Bajaur IDPs

Bajaur – Authorities in Bajaur district have launched an inquiry after a dead frog was allegedly found in food served to internally displaced persons (IDPs) from Mamond tehsil, sparking outrage and demands for accountability.
According to locals, the incident occurred at a relief camp set up in Government Degree College, where IDPs discovered the frog in a curry. A video of the incident was widely shared on social media.
Affected residents claimed they had been complaining of substandard meals since the beginning, but “never imagined finding a frog instead of chicken meat in the curry.” Some also alleged that three people fell ill after consuming the food, which was later discarded.
Social activist Zafarullah Bajauri confirmed that the incident was first flagged by youth from Mamond village, demanding that the contractor responsible be blacklisted to ensure provision of safe and quality meals to displaced families.
Following the uproar, the Deputy Commissioner of Bajaur ordered the arrest of the cook and the contractor. Authorities announced the immediate cancellation of the contractor’s agreement, transferring food provision to a new contractor to avoid disruption. Monitoring teams have also been tasked with overseeing food quality and quantity.
Meanwhile, some Bajaur residents have dismissed the incident as a “conspiracy” against the contractor, suggesting it was staged to remove him. They condemned the act and called for a thorough investigation.
Earlier, IDPs from Inayat Kallay and Bhai China villages had protested against poor food quality and irregular distribution at the camps, alleging that meals were insufficient in both weight and quality.
Thousands of people from Mamond and nearby areas have been displaced due to ongoing counter-terrorism operations and are currently residing in government-run TDP camps.
