Reconstruction of Bugan Bazaar in Kurram Marks Model of State-People Cooperation

Peshawar: Bugan Bazaar in Kurram, which was set ablaze during violent clashes last year, has been fully rebuilt through joint efforts of state institutions and the local community, symbolizing a new chapter of peace and cooperation.

On November 22, 2024, Bugan Bazaar was torched during a dispute between local factions. A historic peace agreement was reached in January 2025, ending decades of rivalry in the region and paving the way for reconstruction.

Following the accord, on May 16, 2025, the Pakistan Army’s Engineering Corps and district administration began restoration work. The project included rebuilding 102 shops, a National Bank branch, a NADRA office, a government high school, a madrassa, a waiting area, and installing streetlights.

As part of the effort, keys to 101 shops were formally handed over to traders during a ceremony held at the Government High School Bugan. Local businessmen and community elders expressed gratitude to the provincial government and the Pakistan Army for the timely reconstruction and restoration of livelihoods.

Residents hailed the revival of Bugan Bazaar as a symbol of collective victory for both the state and the people, emphasizing that peace and stability in Kurram had been reinforced by the successful collaboration.
