Cloudburst Triggers Deadly Flash Floods in Occupied Kashmir’s Kishtwar District; 46 Killed, Over 200 Missing

SRINAGAR:At least **46 people**, including over **30 Hindu pilgrims**, were killed after a **cloudburst triggered devastating flash floods** in **Kishtwar district** of **Indian-occupied Kashmir**, local authorities confirmed on Thursday.
According to officials, the incident occurred in a **remote village** where **1,000 to 1,200 people** had gathered, many of them en route to a nearby temple. The sudden cloudburst unleashed torrential rains, submerging the area and sweeping away dozens of people.
Authorities say **more than 200 individuals are still missing**, while nearly **100 have been injured**, with **30 critically wounded**.
Indian media reports confirm that **at least 40 bodies have been recovered** so far, and **search and rescue operations are ongoing** despite the challenging terrain and harsh weather conditions.

Local disaster response teams and Indian forces have been deployed to assist in the evacuation and relief efforts, while families of the missing remain in distress amid growing fears of a rising death toll.
The tragedy has once again highlighted the vulnerability of the Himalayan region to extreme weather events, worsened by deforestation and poor infrastructure in high-risk areas.
