Zareen Khan Claps Back at Troll Who Told Her to Get Married: “Is Marriage the Solution to Everything?”

Mumbai: Bollywood actress Zareen Khan recently gave a witty and powerful response to a social media user who commented on her Instagram post, telling her to “get married, you’re getting old.”
Instead of ignoring the comment, Zareen addressed the ageist remark with intelligence and clarity. In a video shared on her Instagram, the actress challenged outdated stereotypes about age and marriage, asking why marriage is often considered the solution to life’s problems.
Zareen spoke out in support of women’s autonomy, criticizing the notion that marriage is a guarantee of happiness. She highlighted how, especially in Indian society, marriage is often seen as the fix for everything, regardless of individual circumstances.

She questioned why, when a person is struggling or not achieving anything in life, families often suggest “getting them married” as the solution. Zareen pointed out that if someone can’t even take care of themselves, adding another person into the equation won’t solve anything. In fact, it could potentially ruin two lives instead of one.
The actress also noted that in many households, a woman’s independence is still viewed as a threat. She explained that when a girl becomes too independent or assertive, families often panic and suggest marriage as a way to “control” her, thinking that it will put her “back in place.”
Ending the video with a rhetorical question, Zareen asked, “Is marriage some kind of magic? From what I see, most marriages barely last two to three months these days. So, marriage is not the solution to every problem.”
Zareen Khan made her Bollywood debut in 2010 with Veer, starring opposite Salman Khan, a film that attracted its share of public criticism, including unfair comparisons with Katrina Kaif. Over time, she carved her own identity through her performances in films like Housefull 2, Hate Story 3, and 1921. In addition to Hindi cinema, Zareen has also worked in Punjabi, Tamil, and Telugu films.
She has frequently spoken out against body-shaming and societal expectations. Her last appearance was in the 2021 film Hum Bhi Akeli Tum Bhi Akeli.
