Baloch Students Organization Condemns Closure of Language Departments at Balochistan University

Quetta, Pakistan:The central spokesperson of the Baloch Students Organization (BSO) has strongly condemned the closure of the Balochi, Brahvi, and Pashto language departments at the University of Balochistan, describing it as an attack not only on the departments but also on the national languages, culture, and traditions of Balochistan.

In a statement, the BSO spokesperson emphasized that educational institutions are not just centers of knowledge, but also custodians of the intellectual, cultural, and linguistic identity of nations. He argued that the closure of local language departments is an attempt to erase these languages, disconnect the youth from their roots, and weaken national consciousness.

He further stated that such decisions, made under state patronage, are not only violations of linguistic rights but also a denial of the historical, cultural, and social diversity of Balochistan. The BSO has made it clear that it will not accept this decision and will continue to oppose it through all available means.

The spokesperson also mentioned that students, intellectuals, writers, and all progressive forces who speak Balochi, Brahvi, and Pashto will unite on a single platform to challenge this unjust move. The organization demands the immediate reversal of this decision and plans to launch a widespread public and democratic movement against it.

He reiterated that the survival of languages is integral to the survival of nations, and the BSO will not compromise in its fight to protect its languages, culture, and identity. If the departments are not restored promptly, protests, seminars, and press conferences will be organized not only across Balochistan but throughout the country.

The BSO also appealed to student organizations, political parties, the teaching community, and civil society to raise their voices against this cultural and linguistic assault and to join this struggle for the preservation of Balochistan’s heritage.
