Alert Issued for Heavy Rain and Flooding Across the Country
Rising Water Levels Expected in Kabul, Sindh, Chenab, and Jhelum Rivers

Islamabad: The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has issued an alert for heavy rains and potential flooding across the country until July 10. According to the NDMA’s warning, water levels in the Kabul, Sindh, Chenab, and Jhelum Rivers are expected to rise, while low-level flooding is also anticipated at various locations along the Sindh River, including Tarbela, Kala Bagh, Chashma, and Taunsa.
Flood risks are particularly high at the Marala and Khanki points along the Chenab River, and at the Mangla point on the Jhelum River. Increased water flow is also anticipated at the Nowshera point along the Kabul River, while the Swat and Panjkora rivers, as well as associated streams, are expected to experience possible flooding due to heavy rains. Medium-level flooding is expected in streams emanating from the Pir Panjal range, which could affect regions in northeastern Punjab.
In case of possible rainfall, significant increases in water flow are expected in the hilly torrents and streams of Dera Ghazi Khan and Rajanpur districts. The local streams of Balochistan, including Jhal Magsi, Kachi, Sibi, Qila Saifullah, Zhob, and Musa Khel, are also expected to experience heavy water flow.
In Gilgit-Baltistan, rising water levels are forecasted for the Hunza and Shigar Rivers, while flooding is expected in the rivers of Hispar, Khunjerab, Shimshal, Braldo, Hoshey, and Saltoro.
The NDMA and relevant authorities are continuously monitoring the situation and taking necessary measures to ensure timely action. It is advised to avoid crossing streams, bridges, and flooded roads during high water flow.
Residents in low-lying areas should make prior arrangements to move valuable items and livestock to safer locations. Those in sensitive areas should prepare emergency kits containing food, water, and medications for 3-5 days. Local authorities are advised to prepare necessary machinery and pumps for prompt water drainage.
People living in flood-prone areas should stay updated with official announcements and alerts through TV and mobile notifications. NDMA has urged all relevant agencies to ensure preparedness for any potential emergency situations, while the public is encouraged to use the Pak NDMA Disaster Alert app for guidance regarding weather and possible hazards.
