Mahmood Khan Achakzai Offers PM Talks for Formation of National Government, Rejects Other Negotiations

Islamabad:Senior politician and head of the opposition alliance Tehreek Tahafuz-e-Aain Pakistan, Mahmood Khan Achakzai, has extended an offer to Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif for talks—but only on the formation of a national government, rejecting any negotiations on other matters.

Speaking at a press conference, Achakzai emphasized that the country needs unity, not division or personal attacks, and said,

“This is not the time to hurl insults at one another. We must unite.”

He expressed disappointment that his previous warnings were ignored, accusing the current government of violating the Constitution. He criticized the Election Commission for alleged bias and condemned the Supreme Court’s decision to strip Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) of its electoral symbol, claiming the government came to power “at gunpoint.”

Achakzai, a long-time political associate of Shehbaz Sharif, added that while he respects the prime minister, “Shehbaz often gets upset at my harsh words.” He further alleged that the current government used money and coercion to secure power.

He also took aim at National Assembly Speaker Ayaz Sadiq, accusing him of partisanship and highlighting the troubling trend of arresting parliamentarians from within the assembly.

“The speaker justifies surveillance and call tapping by spy agencies, which is unacceptable in a democratic society,” he said.

Achakzai warned that remaining silent under the current circumstances would be a criminal negligence, reiterating that Pakistan needs a broad-based national government to restore constitutional order and public trust.
