Pakistan Considers Selling Excess LNG Amid Declining Domestic Demand

According to foreign news agency Reuters, Pakistan is facing an annual loss of \$37.8 million for local gas producers due to increased LNG supply in the country.

The report states that Pakistan currently has at least three additional LNG cargoes imported from Qatar that have no buyers within the country.

Traditionally, a large portion of Pakistan’s LNG was used to fuel gas-based power plants, but over the past three years, electricity generation from these plants has steadily declined.

This shift is attributed to the growing use of cheaper solar panels for home-based electricity generation. Consequently, Pakistan is now considering selling its excess LNG cargoes to other buyers abroad.
