Rain and Thunderstorm System to Enter Pakistan Amid Severe Heatwave

Lahore – After a prolonged spell of intense heat across the country, the Pakistan Meteorological Department has forecast rain and strong winds in several regions. According to the Met Office, a weather system bringing rain and gusty winds will enter Pakistan on Wednesday, May 28, bringing a shift in weather patterns.
The system is expected to cause rain accompanied by strong winds on Thursday, May 29. While most districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa are likely to remain hot and dry, scattered rain and hailstorms are expected in certain areas.
Cloudy weather with possible thunderstorms and rainfall is expected in Chitral, Dir, Swat, Malakand, Shangla, Kurram, Orakzai, Bajaur, Khyber, and North Waziristan. Rain accompanied by thunder is also forecast for Mansehra, Abbottabad, Battagram, Tor Ghar, Lakki Marwat, Dera Ismail Khan, Bannu, Hangu, Mardan, Charsadda, and Swabi. Dust storms and hailstorms are possible in the province’s lowland areas.
On Tuesday, temperatures soared across the region: Peshawar recorded 38°C, Dera Ismail Khan 40°C, Chitral 34°C, Dir 33°C, Swat and Mingora 35°C, Kalam 27°C, and Malam Jabba 22°C.
In Balochistan, hot and dry weather is expected in most areas, with partly cloudy skies. However, rain is likely in Zhob, Sherani, Dera Bugti, Harnai, Ziarat, Hub, and Qila Saifullah and surrounding areas. Showers are also expected in Barkhan, Loralai, Duki, Musakhel, Sohbatpur, Sibi, Naseerabad, Kalat, Awaran, and nearby locations, with the possibility of heavy rainfall in isolated spots.
Recorded temperatures include 38°C in Quetta, 33°C in Kalat, 26°C in Ziarat, 39°C in Zhob, 35°C in Gwadar, 34°C in Jiwani, and 37°C in Chaman. Extreme heat was observed in Sibi (47°C), Turbat (44°C), and Nokundi (45°C).
