White House Accuses China of Widespread Trade Evasion to Avoid U.S. Tariffs
WASHINGTON:The White House has accused China of engaging in large-scale trade evasion to circumvent U.S. tariffs by routing Chinese goods through third countries before they reach the American market.
According to a report shared by President Donald Trump on social media, Chinese goods are allegedly being shipped to the United States through more than **40 countries**, including India and Israel, in an effort to avoid tariffs. The report claims the practice could be saving China up to **$300 billion** in tariff payments.
Sources said **Pakistan is not among the countries** allegedly being used to illegally route Chinese goods into the United States.
Chinese officials and trade experts, however, rejected the U.S. allegations of trade deception.
Chinese officials said companies diversifying their production across different countries is a normal development in global supply chains and should not automatically be characterized as an attempt to evade tariffs.
They said the key question is whether companies falsely declared the origin of their products or violated rules governing the determination of a product’s country of origin.
A spokesperson for the Chinese Embassy in Washington, D.C., said third-party interests should not be targeted through unilateral measures against goods being shipped internationally.
The spokesperson added that tariffs and trade wars do not produce winners. Beijing rejects the use of national security as a justification for suppressing Chinese products and opposes unilateral tariffs.
The spokesperson warned that China would take measures to protect its interests if necessary.
