India Faces Diplomatic Isolation Amid Escalating Tensions with Pakistan

New Delhi/Islamabad:The recent military escalation between India and Pakistan, which began on the night of May 6-7, has not only exposed India’s vulnerabilities on the battlefield but also highlighted its increasing diplomatic isolation.
While Pakistan garnered support from key allies including **Turkey, China, and Azerbaijan**, and even received indirect endorsement from major global powers, India was left with only **Israel** openly backing its stance. The **United Nations Security Council**’s reference to **Kashmir as a disputed territory** and **U.S. President Donald Trump’s offer to mediate on Kashmir** further emphasized India’s diplomatic failures.
In an attempt to salvage its global image, India formed an **18-member cross-party parliamentary delegation** on May 18. However, the delegation’s **legal legitimacy has come under scrutiny** domestically, as critics argue it lacked formal parliamentary approval. The group, led by **Janata Dal’s Sanjay Kumar Jha**, has started its outreach with a visit to **Japan**, meeting officials and think tanks there.
Meanwhile, **Pakistan is preparing to send its own diplomatic mission**. The delegation, headed by **PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari**, is scheduled to visit major capitals including **London, Paris, Brussels, and Moscow**, to present Pakistan’s stance and counter India’s narrative. The 8-member team includes high-profile figures such as **Hina Rabbani Khar**, **Sherry Rehman**, **Mussadiq Malik**, **Khurram Dastgir**, **Faisal Sabzwari**, and former diplomats **Jalil Abbas Jilani** and **Tehmina Janjua**.
Criticism within India has intensified. Former Indian Foreign Minister **Yashwant Sinha** lambasted the government’s diplomatic move, calling the multi-party delegation a “**sham**” and a **publicity stunt**. In a televised interview, he questioned the inclusion of opposition leader **Rahul Gandhi**—previously labeled a “Pakistani agent” by the ruling BJP—and demanded the resignation of **External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar** over India’s failed diplomacy.
As diplomatic narratives unfold across continents, the international community watches closely, hoping for de-escalation while recognizing Pakistan’s growing diplomatic momentum and India’s struggle to consolidate global support.
