TMC Leaders Slam BJP Over Pahalgam Attack, Religious Bias; Professor Ali Khan Granted Bail by Supreme Court

New Delhi:Senior All India Trinamool Congress (TMC) leader Yashwant Sinha has given a clean chit to Pakistan regarding the recent Pahalgam attack, alleging instead that the incident was orchestrated to influence upcoming elections in Bihar. Sinha drew parallels with the 2019 Pulwama attack, stating, “Pulwama happened just before the elections, and Modi fully exploited it for political gain by seeking votes in the name of the martyrs.”
Meanwhile, TMC Member of Parliament Mahua Moitra raised strong concerns over religious discrimination in India’s law enforcement. She said that Professor Ali Khan Mahmudabad was targeted solely because he is a Muslim. Drawing attention to BJP leader Vijay Shah, who allegedly called Colonel Sophia Qureshi a “sister of terrorists,” Moitra noted that while both Shah and Professor Mahmudabad faced similar FIRs, they were treated differently due to religion.
“If this can happen to someone as educated and prominent as Professor Ali, imagine the state of 200 million Muslims living in India,” she remarked during a heated session in the Lok Sabha.
The controversy comes on the heels of the Indian Supreme Court’s decision to grant bail to Professor Ali Khan Mahmudabad, who was arrested over a social media post. While ordering his release, the court instructed him not to speak or post online regarding the content under investigation.
These developments have intensified political debate in India, with opposition leaders accusing the ruling BJP of exploiting national security incidents for electoral gains and perpetuating religious discrimination.
