Pakistan Proposes Zero-Tariff Trade Agreement with U.S. to Boost Bilateral Economic Ties

In a significant move aimed at strengthening bilateral economic relations, Pakistan has proposed a zero-tariff bilateral trade agreement with the United States. According to media reports, the offer includes the elimination of tariffs on select products of mutual interest, with the objective of enhancing trade across multiple sectors.

The proposal marks a strategic effort by Pakistan to deepen its economic engagement with Washington, particularly at a time when global trade dynamics are evolving rapidly.

Earlier on Thursday, U.S. President Donald Trump revealed that India had also proposed a trade agreement offering zero tariffs on American goods. However, he expressed disappointment over Apple Inc.’s investment strategy in India, citing concerns about its implications for American economic interests.

India is aiming to finalize its trade deal with the U.S. before the expiration of the tariff suspension period announced by President Trump on April 9 for key trade partners.

In a related development earlier this week, President Trump claimed that U.S. intervention played a crucial role in preventing a potential nuclear conflict between Pakistan and India. While addressing a White House event, he also suggested that trade-related concerns significantly influenced the decision to de-escalate tensions between the two South Asian neighbors.

Pakistan’s trade proposal is seen as a proactive diplomatic and economic step, potentially opening the door to greater market access, investment, and stability in regional relations.
