Nawazuddin Siddiqui Slams Bollywood, Calls Industry ‘Creatively Bankrupt and Full of Theft

Mumbai (Entertainment Desk):** Renowned Bollywood actor Nawazuddin Siddiqui has strongly criticized the current state of the Hindi film industry, calling it “a thief” and “creatively bankrupt.” In a recent interview, Siddiqui expressed deep concern over the repetitive content and lack of originality in Bollywood.
“Our industry keeps repeating the same thing for five years until the audience gets bored,” Siddiqui said. “There is so much insecurity now. Bollywood thinks that if a formula works, it should just keep using it endlessly. And what’s worse is the rise of endless sequels — 2, 3, 4 parts. Just like financial bankruptcy, this is creative bankruptcy.”
He further alleged that Bollywood has long relied on stealing content. “We stole songs, stories — everything. We’ve stolen from the South, from here and there. Even some cult hits have copied scenes. This theft has become so normalized that people now say: ‘So what if it’s copied?’”
Siddiqui recalled times when filmmakers would openly show videos of other films and say, “We want to make this,” and simply recreate the same. “What do you expect from such an industry? What kind of actors will it produce? The same kind — copied and unoriginal. That’s why even good directors like Anurag Kashyap are moving away.”
Despite the criticism, Siddiqui remains active in the industry and is set to appear in his upcoming film **”Costao,”** where he plays a police officer battling a dangerous smuggling mafia. The gripping plot follows his character’s journey through court battles after he kills a mafia member in self-defense and is sentenced to death — a verdict he later overturns through a Supreme Court appeal.
The film is produced by Vinod Bhanushali, Kamlesh Bhanushali, Bhavesh Mandalia, Sejal Shah, Shyam Sunder, and Faizuddin Siddiqui. The teaser of *Costao* has already generated significant buzz among fans.
