DG ISPR: Pakistan is a Peaceful Country, Ready to Respond to Aggression with Full Force

Islamabad:Director General (DG) of Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), Lieutenant General Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry, has reaffirmed that Pakistan is a peaceful country and desires peace in the region. However, he emphasized that if aggression is imposed on Pakistan, the country is fully prepared to give a befitting response.

This statement came during a briefing for political party leaders on the ongoing tension between Pakistan and India. Federal Minister for Information, Ataullah Tarar, and DG ISPR briefed the political leaders about the current situation and national security matters. The briefing also included discussions on Pakistan’s military preparedness and government diplomatic measures in response to regional developments.

Political leaders from various parties attended the session, which was held in-camera at the headquarters of the state television. Among those present were Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leaders Khurram Dastgir, Abid Sher Ali, and Interior Adviser Pervez Khattak. Leaders from the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM), including Dr. Farooq Sattar, were also present, along with Sindh ministers Nisar Hussain Shah, Sharjeel Memon, and Saeed Ghani. PPP’s Shazia Marri and MQM’s Faisal Sabzwari were also in attendance.

The briefing focused on the current national security situation, its implications, and the government’s efforts to address the emerging challenges. However, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) had already decided not to participate in the briefing.

The escalation began on April 22 when an attack on tourists in the Pahalgam area of Indian-administered Kashmir led to the death of 26 civilians. The Indian government blamed Pakistan for the attack and subsequently suspended the Indus Water Treaty, instructing Pakistanis to leave India immediately. In response, Pakistan closed its airspace to Indian flights. Pakistan also offered to conduct an international investigation into the Pahalgam incident, but India has yet to respond. Many countries, including China, Turkey, and Switzerland, have supported Pakistan’s stance on this matter, with Turkey recently reaffirming its support for Pakistan in the face of India’s aggressive rhetoric.

The political briefing highlighted the growing regional tensions and the need for a unified national response. Pakistan continues to advocate for peace and diplomacy, while also ensuring its readiness to defend its sovereignty against any external threats.
