China Announces Support for Pakistan Amid India-Pakistan Tensions

Islamabad: Chinese Foreign Minister Reaffirms Support for Pakistan’s Counter-Terrorism Efforts
In a phone call between Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar and his Chinese counterpart, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi expressed strong support for Pakistan’s ongoing efforts in countering terrorism. He emphasized that combating terrorism is a shared responsibility among nations.
Wang Yi also reiterated China’s backing for Pakistan’s “legitimate security concerns” and assured that China stands by Pakistan in the face of increasing regional tensions, particularly after the recent attack in Pahalgam, Indian-occupied Kashmir, which resulted in the deaths of 26 tourists.
In his statement, Wang highlighted that China’s support for Pakistan’s counter-terrorism initiatives is part of its broader commitment to regional peace and stability. He also promised to back Pakistan’s sovereignty and security interests. Furthermore, he called for a fair and timely investigation into the Pahalgam incident.
The Chinese Foreign Minister urged both Pakistan and India to exercise restraint and opt for dialogue as a means to resolve their issues peacefully.
The tensions between the two neighboring countries escalated after the Pahalgam attack, where armed assailants opened fire on a group of tourists. India quickly blamed Pakistan for the incident, leading to actions such as suspending the Indus Waters Treaty and taking other retaliatory steps.
In response, Pakistan implemented a robust strategy, suspending all trade with India, closing its airspace to Indian airlines, and declaring Indian diplomats “persona non grata,” asking them to leave the country.
Following the Pahalgam attack, Pakistan offered a proposal for an impartial international investigation, and Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister reached out to foreign ministers worldwide, briefing them on the situation.
