Thousands of Lawyers Protest Against Canal Projects and 26th Constitutional Amendment: Balochistan Bar Council Vice Chairman Speaks Out

QUETTA:Vice Chairman of the Balochistan Bar Council, Advocate Rahib Khan Buledi, has voiced strong support for the ongoing sit-ins held across Sindh, where thousands of lawyers, political activists, and members of civil society have taken to national highways to protest against the construction of six canals from the Indus River and the controversial 26th Constitutional Amendment.
Addressing the demonstrators, Buledi praised the lawyers of Sindh for setting a historic precedent by standing against what he described as an unlawful attempt to divert Sindh’s water resources and undermine constitutional autonomy. He demanded that the ruling parties in the federal government—**Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) and Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N)**—immediately reverse the decision to construct the canals.
“The protest by thousands of informed lawyers and citizens of Sindh is nothing short of a public referendum,” Buledi stated. “No power in the world can stand against the united will of the people.”
He further criticized what he called the **continued forcible occupation of national resources, minerals, and water by the federal government and the establishment**, saying that the people have rejected this exploitation. Buledi also expressed grave concern over the **26th Constitutional Amendment**, which he claimed has placed the judiciary under full control of the executive.
“Whether it’s the canal project from the Indus River or the post-18th Amendment mineral rights of the provinces, lawyers, citizens, and political activists are no longer turning to compromised courts—they are taking their protests to the streets,” he said, accusing the judiciary of corruption, nepotism, and favoritism.
Buledi condemned the current federal coalition, labeling the **PPP and PML-N governments as complete failures in addressing public concerns**, and highlighted the continued imprisonment of numerous political workers, including **Imran Khan and Dr. Mah Rang Baloch**.
He concluded by calling on the people across Pakistan to **intensify their struggle** for justice, rights, and the restoration of democratic and constitutional integrity.
