US Clarifies Stance on Taliban Support and Funding
Islamabad:In a press briefing, US State Department spokesperson Matthew Miller emphasized that the United States does not support the Taliban nor provide them with funding. Miller stated that the US has made it clear that it does not support the Taliban and does not provide them with funding.
The American spokesperson highlighted that the United Nations has issued reports on the Taliban’s unacceptable and arbitrary treatment of women and its violations of human rights in Afghanistan. The Taliban’s disregard for universal ethical norms undermines the human rights of the Afghan people.
Miller expressed strong concern over the Taliban’s behavior towards the Afghan people, particularly women, and emphasized the expectation that the Taliban will respect their assurances to the international community.
He further stated that the Taliban’s relations with the international community depend on their actions.
Additionally, the spokesperson affirmed support for journalists worldwide, emphasizing the importance of ensuring their ability to perform their work safely and securely.
