Yousaf Raza Gillani Calls for Global Parliamentary Alliance for Social Justice at IPU Assembly

Islamabad: Chairman of the Senate and former Prime Minister, Yousaf Raza Gillani, called for the establishment of a global parliamentary union dedicated to social justice during his address at the 150th Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) Assembly in Tashkent.

In a statement issued by the Senate Secretariat, Gillani emphasized the need for legal reforms to ensure the welfare of disadvantaged communities, and better access to health and education, as well as workers’ rights. He also highlighted the importance of legislative changes to protect the rights of women, youth, and people with disabilities.

Gillani urged the global community to prioritize human welfare over market interests, in line with the United Nations’ vision. He also condemned the international silence on the issues of Palestine and Kashmir, calling it a violation of human rights and strongly condemning the ongoing atrocities in both regions.

According to the statement, the Chairman of the Senate emphasized the importance of parliamentary cooperation in advancing progress for all, stating that a just society is built not on words, but on actions. He also stressed the need for decisive actions ahead of the upcoming Global Social Development Conference later this year.

Gillani further lauded parliamentary diplomacy and platforms that promote global justice and cooperation, highlighting their role in achieving lasting social and political progress.
