Andrew Brownlee Makes Cricket History with International Debut at Age 62

Cricket is often considered a young man’s game, where fitness plays a pivotal role, and most cricketers retire around the age of 40. However, one cricketer has defied these norms and made history by starting his international career at the age of 60.

According to foreign media reports, Andrew Brownlee, a cricketer from the Falkland Islands, surprised everyone by making his T20 International debut at the age of 62 against Costa Rica.

The report revealed that on March 10, 2025, during the tour of Costa Rica, the Falkland Islands became the 106th team in the world to play international cricket. All 11 players of the Falkland Islands team were over the age of 31, with two players being over 40. Among them, three players were older than 56, but none were as senior as Andrew Brownlee.

According to reports, at 62 years old, Brownlee became the first male cricketer in the world to play an international T20 or any form of international cricket after crossing the age of 60.

Before Brownlee, the record for the oldest male cricketer to debut in international cricket was held by Turkey’s Osman Goker, who played an international match against Romania at the age of 59 in 2019.

Brownlee played three T20 matches against Costa Rica on March 11 and 12, scoring 1 run, 2 not out, and 3 not out in his respective innings, batting at number 10 in all three games. In his second match, Brownlee also bowled a medium-paced over. On the day of his final match, he was 62 years and 147 days old, making his debut a truly remarkable achievement in the history of cricket.
