Contempt of Court Petition Against PTI Founder Set for Hearing in Supreme Court

The Supreme Court has scheduled a hearing for the contempt of court petition filed against the founder of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), Imran Khan. A five-member constitutional bench, led by Justice Aminuddin, will hear the petition on March 21.
The contempt of court petition was filed by the federal government following the PTI’s long march on May 25, 2022, when the march moved beyond the designated area. During the last hearing, the court had requested a response from the government regarding the follow-up on the petition. The court had also observed that the case might become ineffective and instructed the lawyer to seek guidance.
Salmann Akram Raja, representing the PTI founder, has submitted a response on behalf of Imran Khan. In 2022, the court had instructed the government to allocate a designated ground for the long march, and PTI’s legal team had assured that the march would proceed to the specified location. Under Imran Khan’s leadership, the long march had ended at Jinnah Avenue.
