Pakistan Finalizes Deal with China for Exporting Donkey Hides and Bones

The Ministry of Food has announced that the government has finalized an agreement with China for the export of donkey hides and bones. A slaughterhouse has been established in Gwadar for this purpose, and it has officially begun operations.
During a meeting of the National Assembly’s Standing Committee on Food Security on Thursday, food ministry officials confirmed the agreement with China, under which a Chinese company will oversee all related operations in Gwadar, including the donkey slaughterhouse.
The Chairman of the Standing Committee raised a question about why live donkeys are not being exported to China. The ministry clarified that it is a complex process, but requests are being received from other regions of the country to establish more slaughterhouses. Discussions with Chinese companies are ongoing to explore further possibilities.
One committee member pointed out that the importance of donkeys in Pakistan is decreasing, as loader rickshaws have taken over their role in transportation. The member suggested that efforts be made to breed high-quality donkeys. The meeting also touched on the breeding of ducks, alongside the discussions on donkeys.
