Lahore’s Largest Cattle Market in Shahpur Kanjarah to be Modernized

Islamabad:Lahore’s largest cattle market, located on Multan Road in Shahpur Kanjarah, is being revamped into a state-of-the-art facility. Spread across 72 acres of land, the market is being developed by the Frontier Works Organization (FWO), and it is expected to be completed in just six months at an estimated cost of 4 to 4.5 billion rupees.

The modernized market will feature a wide range of facilities for both large and small animals, with newly designed modern sheds for their accommodation. To address traffic issues on Multan Road, the new market will also include a dedicated space for car and motorcycle parking, as well as 290 loading and unloading ramps for easier transportation of animals.

**State-of-the-Art Cattle Arena**

The upgraded market will also include a Brazilian-style cattle arena, where animals can be displayed for potential buyers. The arena will have a ring for showcasing animals, while stadium-style seating will be arranged for auctioneers and visitors to observe and bid on the animals.

Sheikh Asad, the Public Relations Officer of the Punjab Cattle Market Management and Development Company, stated that the cattle arena would serve two major purposes: facilitating animal exhibitions and providing a venue for future livestock fairs. He further explained that the model market would benefit meat exporters and individuals involved in the livestock business by offering modern facilities.

**Hospitals, Mosques, and Hotels for Visitors**

In addition to animal care, the modernized market will also cater to human needs. Separate hospitals will be built to provide timely medical care for both animals and humans. A guesthouse is also being constructed for visitors who bring livestock from other cities, ensuring they are comfortable during their stay.

The market will include administrative blocks, mosques, hotels, and public restrooms. Road safety measures have also been prioritized, and an efficient waste management system will be in place to maintain cleanliness.

Sheikh Asad emphasized that the infrastructure development would significantly help control animal diseases while providing a safer and cleaner environment for business activities. Security will also be ensured through the installation of CCTV cameras across the market.

This modern cattle market will not only streamline livestock trade but also serve as a model for other markets across the country, ensuring improved health and safety standards for both humans and animals involved in the trade.
