Nawab Sanaullah Khan Zehri Pays Tribute to Martyr Benazir Bhutto on Her 17th Death Anniversary
Quetta:Former Chief Minister of Balochistan, **Nawab Sanaullah Khan Zehri**, has paid tribute to the **Martyr of Democracy**, **Benazir Bhutto**, on the 17th anniversary of her tragic assassination. In a statement issued on December 27, Zehri said that the **martyrdom of Benazir Bhutto** was a monumental sacrifice for the nation and democracy, making her a permanent symbol of resistance against authoritarian rule.
Describing December 27 as “the darkest day in history,” Zehri emphasized that **Benazir Bhutto** not only gave her life to challenge military dictatorship but also defeated General **Pervez Musharraf’s** military regime with her sacrifice. Zehri stated that **Benazir Bhutto’s** legacy continues to shape the political landscape of Pakistan, and her death remains an irreparable loss to the nation.
He further remarked that the **Bhutto family** has made tremendous sacrifices for Pakistan, and **Benazir Bhutto** faced numerous challenges, including the harshest forms of military dictatorships, exile, and personal loss, yet she never wavered in her commitment to democratic struggle. He highlighted that she made history as the **first female Prime Minister of the Islamic World**, an achievement that stands as a testament to her resilience and leadership.
**Nawab Zehri** acknowledged that **Benazir Bhutto** was one of the most formidable leaders in Pakistan’s history, capable of overcoming the toughest challenges. He noted that **Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto**, the founder of the **Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP)**, had named her as his political successor, a decision that time proved to be wise. He stated that during General **Zia-ul-Haq’s** military dictatorship, **Benazir Bhutto** continued her fight for democracy from abroad, keeping the unity of the four provinces intact, and ultimately played a pivotal role in restoring democracy to the country.
Zehri also praised **Benazir Bhutto** for her immense contribution to bringing democracy back to Pakistan, despite the threats to her life. He reiterated that her **return from exile** and **ultimate sacrifice** helped preserve both the country and democracy.
