Zulfikar Ali Bhutto Laid the Foundation of Democracy and the 1973 Constitution, Says Bilawal Bhutto

Larkana — Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari has said that former prime minister and PPP founder Zulfikar Ali Bhutto laid the foundation of democracy and the 1973 Constitution by representing the will of the people.

Addressing the party’s 58th foundation day ceremony via video link, Bilawal said the history of PPP is closely linked with Pakistan’s past and future. He noted that the party’s core philosophy has always been to empower the country’s middle and underprivileged classes economically.

Bilawal emphasized that PPP was founded on a progressive ideology. After Zulfikar Ali Bhutto’s “judicial murder,” Benazir Bhutto continued her father’s mission and struggled for 30 years. He said Benazir fought tirelessly for the restoration of the Constitution, democracy, and people’s rights, confronting two dictators and ultimately sacrificing her life in Liaquat Bagh.

The PPP chairman added that after Benazir Bhutto’s martyrdom, the party upheld her mission. Former president Asif Ali Zardari led historic constitutional reforms, including the 18th Amendment, which restored the true spirit of the Constitution.

He highlighted that President Zardari strengthened the “roti, kapra aur makaan” philosophy through the Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP), providing financial support to the poorest women in the country. Zardari also renamed the province as Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and launched the Aghaz-e-Huqooq-e-Balochistan package.

Bilawal further said that Zardari ensured the rights of all provinces through the NFC Award. Referring to the Pakistan–India conflict in May, he stated that Pakistan inflicted a “historic defeat” on India, with the armed forces and air force downing seven Indian aircraft, earning global recognition for the country.

He added that the PPP is fully satisfied with the efforts of the current government, foreign policy leadership, and armed forces in safeguarding the nation’s interests, and the party celebrates this victory with pride.
