Deadline for Submission of Assets and Liabilities Statements for MPs Announced
Islamabad:The Election Commission of Pakistan has announced the final date for Members of the National and Provincial Assemblies to submit their assets and liabilities statements.
As per Section 137 of the Election Act 2017, all members of the National and Provincial Assemblies, including their spouses and dependent children, are required to submit their assets and liabilities for the fiscal year 2023-24 in the prescribed Form B. The statements must be submitted to the Election Commission by the specified date or by **31st December 2024**.
Under subsection (2) of Section 137, the Commission will publish the names of any members who fail to submit their statements by the deadline in a press release on **1st January** each year. Furthermore, under a directive issued on **16th January**, the Commission will suspend the membership of any member who fails to submit the required statements by **15th January**, prohibiting them from participating in any parliamentary or assembly proceedings until the statements are submitted.
If a member is found to have provided false information in their submitted statements, the Commission will take action under Section 137. Such action will be initiated within **120 days** of the due date for submission, in accordance with the penalties for corruption.
The prescribed Form B, along with guidance notes, can be obtained free of charge from the Election Commission Secretariat in Islamabad, the offices of the relevant Provincial Election Commissioners, the Senate Secretariat, and the National and Provincial Assemblies’ Secretariat. Additionally, the form can be downloaded from the official website of the Election Commission of Pakistan.
