Khawaja Asif Claims Faiz Hameed and Imran Khan Partnership Continued Until May 9, Evidence Available
Islamabad: Defense Minister Khawaja Asif has claimed that the central role in bringing Imran Khan to power was played by General Faiz Hameed, and their partnership continued until May 9 and beyond. He stated that evidence exists to back these claims, adding that this partnership had been in place for 5 to 6 years, with both figures working together since before the 2018 elections.
Speaking to the media at the Parliament House, Asif emphasized that General Faiz Hameed and Imran Khan were key partners in the years leading up to the 2018 general elections. “This partnership not only continued through May 9 but also persisted after that,” he remarked. He further suggested that those who deny this claim should be prepared to confront the available evidence, which could confirm their six-year-long collaboration.
Khawaja Asif also discussed the methods used to bring Imran Khan into power, including allegations of the RTS (Result Transmission System) manipulation, electoral rigging, and the use of state machinery against political opponents. “Imran Khan’s rise was aided by the military, with several opposition figures imprisoned, fake cases filed against them, and their families harassed. Corruption involving Imran Khan and his wife, along with business tycoons, also took place during their tenure,” Asif claimed.
Regarding Imran Khan’s potential military trial, the Defense Minister stated that the legal process would determine the outcome. He pointed out that many individuals underwent military trials during Imran Khan’s time in power, and any new evidence could lead to significant repercussions.
Asif also criticized the PTI’s handling of the deaths of 12 individuals, claiming that PTI member Ali Amin Gandapur’s guards had killed their own people but tried to blame the police and Rangers. He questioned why the deaths of five Rangers and police officers were being ignored. “Why don’t they talk about those who were martyred in the line of duty? Are they not Pakistanis?” he said, pointing out the discrepancies in the media reports circulating on social media.
