Over 6.5 Billion Rupees Collected in Motor Vehicle Tax in Sindh from July to November
Karachi: The Sindh government has collected over 6.5 billion rupees in motor vehicle tax from July to November this year.
The Chief Secretary of Sindh, Asif Haider Shah, chaired an important meeting of the Excise Department, where senior officials, including the Secretary of Excise and Secretary of Implementation, were present. During the meeting, Excise officials briefed on the financial performance, revealing that 6.532 billion rupees (over 6.5 billion) had been collected in motor vehicle taxes for the fiscal year 2024-25 so far.
In addition to motor vehicle tax, the department has collected 707 million rupees in professional tax, 85.172 billion rupees in infrastructure tax, 150 million rupees in internet duty, and 377 million rupees in cotton fee tax.
The Chief Secretary directed the Excise Department to introduce technology-driven reforms to simplify and streamline the tax collection process, aiming to reduce human intervention and increase transparency. He emphasized introducing an advance tax payment system, allowing tax payers to settle dues for 3 to 5 years in advance.
The Chief Secretary also highlighted that the department’s Annual Development Program includes six infrastructure projects and one IT project, designed to make the registration process more user-friendly. Additionally, biometric verification and cashless transactions will be introduced to further ease the process of vehicle registration.
The Chief Secretary stressed that these reforms would ensure greater convenience and transparency for taxpayers, making it easier for citizens to comply with tax regulations.
