Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Government Decides to Label Sectarian Hate-Promoting Elements as Terrorists in Kurram District
Peshawar: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has decided to designate elements spreading sectarian hatred and inciting violence in Kurram District as terrorists and take strict action against them. This decision was made during a provincial cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur, where the government’s plan of action regarding the situation in Kurram was presented.
During the briefing, it was reported that at least 133 people have lost their lives and 177 others have been injured in various incidents in Kurram. To find a peaceful and sustainable solution, a Grand Jirga (tribal council) has been formed, which will remain in the region until full peace is restored.
The briefing further revealed that certain elements are exacerbating tensions by promoting hatred between different sects in the area. These elements will be designated as terrorists, and legal action will be taken against them. They will be included in the “Schedule Four” list, which includes individuals associated with terrorism.
The provincial government has also sent a letter to the federal government requesting the deployment of the Frontier Constabulary in the region. In addition, compensation will be provided to the victims of violence, and efforts will be made to facilitate the return of displaced families who had moved to other districts due to the unrest.
Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur clarified that the issue in Kurram is not about terrorism, but rather a few individuals trying to sow discord between two sects. He urged local elders to cooperate in identifying these miscreants, stating that such elements will be treated as terrorists and dealt with accordingly.
The Chief Minister emphasized that a ceasefire is essential for lasting peace in the region. He also directed that essential medicines be supplied to Kurram by helicopter to address the ongoing shortage in the area.
