Freezing Food in Plastic Containers May Be Harmful to Health, Experts Warn

ISLAMABAD: Health experts have advised caution against freezing leftover food in plastic containers, warning that the practice may pose potential health risks.
According to health reports, experts say that storing food in plastic containers inside freezers could expose consumers to harmful microplastics.
Consumer rights organizations have recommended using glass or stainless steel containers as safer and more reliable alternatives for food storage.
Experts explained that extreme cold temperatures and repeated heating can weaken plastic materials, causing them to release tiny plastic particles known as microplastics.
These particles may mix with food and eventually enter the human body, raising concerns about long-term health effects.
Research has shown that microplastics can negatively impact the environment, while scientists are still investigating their possible effects on human health.
Studies have already detected microplastics in human blood, lungs, placentas, and even breast milk. Researchers also warn that nano-plastics may be capable of crossing the brain’s protective barrier, potentially increasing the risk of neurological diseases in the future.
Health specialists continue to urge consumers to adopt safer food storage practices to reduce unnecessary exposure to plastic-related contaminants.
