Maulana Fazlur Rehman Criticizes Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Government, Opposes Confrontation with Center
Rahim Yar Khan: Maulana Fazlur Rehman, the leader of the Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (JUI-F), has criticized the current political situation in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, stating that there is no functioning government in the province. He also opposed any efforts to create conflict between the province and the federal government. Speaking to the media in Rahim Yar Khan, Maulana Fazl said that the recent developments in Islamabad were unfortunate and expressed his concerns about the situation in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
“The government in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa is non-existent. We do not support efforts to pit the province against the center,” Maulana Fazl said, emphasizing that only a government that represents the people can address their issues.
He also addressed the issue of imposing a governor’s rule in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, stating that such a move would not resolve the ongoing challenges. “Imposing a governor’s rule or banning political parties is not the solution to our problems. At present, there is no hope from a governor’s rule in the province,” he added.
When asked about the current government’s legitimacy, Maulana Fazl said that the present government has no right to remain in power for even a single day. However, he refrained from predicting how long the government would last.
Regarding constitutional amendments, the JUI-F leader confirmed that there had been no updates on the 27th Constitutional Amendment and no communication had been made with them on the matter. He also mentioned that the President of Pakistan has yet to sign the bill related to madrassas (religious schools).
In response to a question about whether former U.S. President Donald Trump could secure the release of former Prime Minister Imran Khan, Maulana Fazl sarcastically replied, “Are decisions of Pakistan now to be made by Trump?” He then added, “Inna Lillahi wa Inna Ilaihi Raji’un,” expressing his dismay at the situation.
