Defense Minister Khawaja Asif Criticizes PTI Leadership Over Recent Protest
Islamabad:Defense Minister and senior PML-N leader Khawaja Asif recently commented on the protests organized by Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), highlighting the potential consequences of the demonstrations. In a tweet on social media platform X, Asif claimed that if PTI’s protesters had opted for a sit-in, as initially suggested by party leadership, the situation in the capital would have escalated severely. According to him, Islamabad’s roads would have been blocked, internet services would have been disrupted, and traveling to the city would have become a significant challenge.
Asif further implied that the PTI leadership, including former Prime Minister Imran Khan, had agreed to the idea of a sit-in. However, he credited former First Lady, Bushra Bibi, for allegedly de-escalating the situation. Asif stated that it was due to Bushra Bibi’s insistence that PTI’s supporters from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa refrained from attacking D-Chowk, leaving behind clothes, vehicles, flags, and even pictures of Imran Khan as they fled the scene.
The defense minister’s tweet also questioned Bushra Bibi’s role in the protest, suggesting that her involvement might have played a part in undermining PTI’s commitment to its cause. He raised doubts over whether she was secretly playing a double game, stating that it would not hurt to investigate further.
This latest statement comes amidst ongoing political tension between the government and the opposition party, with PTI still protesting against the alleged victimization of its leadership and supporters. The incident at D-Chowk and the political implications of these events remain a subject of intense debate in Pakistan’s political circles.
