Quetta Faces Gas Shortage as Winter Sets In, Citizens Turn to Expensive Gas Cylinders
Quetta:As temperatures in Quetta continue to drop, the longstanding issue of low gas pressure has once again become a significant problem for residents. With the onset of winter, many areas of the city are experiencing reduced gas supply, and some consumers are facing severe difficulties due to unannounced gas load management. In these conditions, many residents have been forced to purchase gas cylinders at higher prices to meet their cooking needs.
The situation has worsened as the city records minimum temperatures between two to three degrees Celsius, further exacerbating the demand for heating and cooking gas. Households, tandoors, and restaurants alike are struggling to cook food, with many finding it hard to prepare meals, particularly during the breakfast hours. “We barely manage to cook breakfast in the morning because of the low gas pressure,” said one local resident, highlighting the daily struggles they face.
While the Sui Southern Gas Company (SSGC) claims to have completed several pipeline projects in Quetta to address the gas pressure issue, these improvements have yet to make a significant impact. The company’s officials assure that they are working on long-term solutions, but the immediate concerns of consumers remain unresolved.
Local residents are now demanding that the gas pressure be improved before the cold weather sets in fully. With the winter season already in full swing, many are urging the authorities to take urgent action to ensure a steady gas supply during the colder months, especially for domestic use. “We are left with no choice but to buy expensive gas cylinders because of the unreliable supply,” another resident stated.
The combination of rising gas prices and the recurring supply issues has caused frustration among the people of Quetta, who rely on natural gas for cooking and heating during the harsh winter season. The ongoing gas shortage is putting a strain on both household budgets and daily routines, prompting calls for immediate intervention from the relevant authorities to ensure that the gas pressure issue is addressed effectively.
