PTI Will Not Get KP Government Back, Imran Khan’s Release Through Political Bargaining Unlikely, Analysts Say

LAHORE:Senior journalist and analyst Muneeb Farooq has claimed that Barrister Gohar Ali Khan had been informed that the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) would not be given back the government in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, even if its supporters were described as angels.

Speaking on Geo News, Farooq said Barrister Gohar had also met Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi. He claimed that Gohar had been told well in advance that PTI would not regain control of the provincial government.

Farooq added that what he described as “cowboy-style politics” would not be tolerated from any political party, whether PTI or another party.

Commenting on the possibility of a political deal, he questioned whether bargaining could lead to Imran Khan’s release in exchange for votes, saying the chances were almost negligible.

He said any relief that might be offered would be of a different nature, adding that there were currently no visible indications of relief that could lead to Imran Khan’s release.

Meanwhile, senior journalist Ayesha Shirazi said PTI was facing decisive moments and that political and establishment circles had long been urging the party to operate as a political party rather than present itself solely as a movement of political resistance.

Speaking about the party’s parliamentary meeting, Shirazi said PTI should formulate a political strategy and reconsider its approach.

She described the party’s willingness to begin a process of self-accountability and keep the door open for dialogue as a positive development. She said negotiations could proceed on the basis of give and take.

Shirazi also said the government was standing on firm ground and claimed that there had been no resistance when changes were sought in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

She added that a group of lawmakers was also willing to stand with the government, suggesting that PTI would now attempt to make use of whatever political options remained available to it.

According to Shirazi, the party’s willingness to engage in self-accountability was a positive sign amid the current political uncertainty.
