In a statement, Achakzai said Begum Nusrat Bhutto, widely regarded as the Mother of Democracy, was an extraordinary symbol of courage, patience, determination and perseverance.
He said she upheld the banner of democracy during the dark periods of dictatorship and fascism, enduring imprisonment, flogging and other forms of persecution while keeping alive the political philosophy and legacy of former prime minister Zulfikar Ali Bhutto.
Achakzai added that Begum Nusrat Bhutto faced immense personal tragedies, including the deaths of her husband, Zulfikar Ali Bhutto, her daughter Benazir Bhutto, and her sons Shahnawaz Bhutto and Murtaza Bhutto.
