Inside Story of Sohail Afridi’s Detention Emerges

PESHAWAR (Qudrat Roznama): The complete inside story and key details have emerged regarding the taking into protective custody of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi, Provincial Assembly Speaker Babar Saleem Swati, MPAs Junaid Akbar and Khalid Khurshid, and other leaders by police and the administration.

According to sources cited by Geo News, police launched an operation at the Chief Minister’s House Peshawar and the Speaker’s House at 12 noon on October 11. During the operation, police broke down the door of Sohail Afridi’s room at the Chief Minister’s House and took him into protective custody from his room, where he was present alone at the time.

Official sources said that during the operation, Sohail Afridi was neither handcuffed nor placed in a prisoners’ vehicle. Instead, security officers remained with him in the room for about 45 minutes and held a detailed conversation with him.

It was reported that when a police officer asked Sohail Afridi how far he intended to take the long march, he revealed that there was no intention of taking the long march to Islamabad, as an understanding with the government had already been reached the previous night through Maulana Fazlur Rehman.

Sohail Afridi said that the federal government had agreed to accept the demands for a meeting with PTI founder Imran Khan and his transfer to a hospital for treatment. He said he had already spoken with party leaders and was awaiting final instructions to formally announce the end of the long march.

On the other hand, sources further said that KP Assembly Speaker Babar Saleem Swati, Junaid Akbar and former Gilgit-Baltistan Chief Minister Khalid Khurshid were taken into custody from the Speaker’s House. The entire operation to take all key PTI leaders into protective custody was completed within just two hours.
