Punjab CM Maryam Nawaz Criticizes PTI’s Protest Call, Warns Against Violence
Lahore:Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has strongly criticized the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leadership for calling another round of protests, particularly the party’s planned march towards Islamabad today, 24th November. Maryam Nawaz emphasized that no violence should be used against the people of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, stating that the police had been instructed not to fire on protesters. She also expressed confidence that the continuous calls for protests and sit-ins would fail.
Addressing the ongoing political crisis, Maryam Nawaz, who is the daughter of former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, said that as the Chief Minister of Punjab, she knew how to protect the people of her province from what she termed the “mischief” of PTI’s leaders. “These people will fail in their nefarious designs,” she declared, referring to PTI’s continued push for mass protests following their leadership’s ousting from power in 2022.
The Punjab CM also criticized PTI’s shifting narrative, pointing out that the party had previously claimed that the United States was behind the removal of Imran Khan, while now, in their rallies, American flags are being waved. “This reflects the contradiction in their politics,” she remarked.
Furthermore, Maryam Nawaz alleged that the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government was attacking both the federal and Punjab governments, adding that the situation in the country, especially the ongoing protests, was beyond her comprehension.
In response to former First Lady Bushra Bibi’s controversial remarks about Saudi Arabia, Maryam Nawaz also lashed out, accusing Bushra Bibi of attacking Pakistan’s ally despite the Kingdom’s long-standing support for Pakistan during difficult times.
The situation in Islamabad and Rawalpindi remains tense as PTI’s protest call has brought normal life to a standstill. Major roads, public transport, and key interchanges have been blocked, with security forces on high alert to handle any potential unrest.
Maryam Nawaz’s remarks come as the political temperature in Pakistan continues to rise, with PTI’s defiance against the government leading to heightened confrontations between the two sides.
