‘Situation Is Very Bad’: Muhammad Zubair Claims Imran Khan’s Medical Treatment Linked to Approval of Operations in Five Districts

LAHORE: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI)-backed Tehreek Tahafuz Aain Pakistan economic spokesperson Muhammad Zubair has claimed that the situation surrounding former prime minister Imran Khan is “very bad,” alleging that meetings with him and his medical treatment have been directly linked to approval for operations in five districts.

Speaking in a podcast, Zubair said he did not want to spread despondency but believed the situation needed to be discussed honestly.

He claimed that Mohsin Naqvi had made it clear during recent talks that several matters were interconnected and that if approval for operations was not given, meetings with Imran Khan and his medical treatment would not proceed.

Zubair said that after two days of talks, he had been in contact with participants and had received indications about the discussions. He said he had questioned where the issue of terrorism had emerged in the middle of the talks.

Referring to an earlier Supreme Court ruling, Zubair said the court had directed in mid-August that Imran Khan be provided medical facilities, allowed to speak to his children and that his doctor be included in the medical board.

He alleged that these directions had not been implemented, particularly the provision for Imran Khan to speak to his children.

Zubair said that even if transferring Imran Khan to Shifa Hospital was considered a security issue, there was no such justification for preventing him from speaking to his children.

He said nearly two months had passed without the communication taking place, while pressure from PTI workers had intensified.

According to Zubair, political parties are built by their workers, and amid mounting pressure, PTI leader Sohail Afridi had announced a protest call.

He said the government subsequently attempted to engage with the opposition and offered assurances.

Zubair claimed that during the talks, Mohsin Naqvi made it clear that the issues were linked, alleging that approval for operations in five districts had been made a condition for facilitating a meeting with Imran Khan and his medical treatment.

He said the development had raised serious concerns and that the situation required an honest assessment.
