Pakistan, IMF Begin Talks on Memorandum of Financial and Economic Policies

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan and the International Monetary Fund (IMF) have formally begun negotiations to reach an agreement on the Memorandum of Financial and Economic Policies (MEFP), a development that could pave the way for a future staff-level agreement (SLA).
According to the report, the IMF review mission and Pakistani authorities have started discussions on the MEFP, focusing on outstanding issues that require consensus.
Officials said efforts are underway to resolve the remaining matters over the next few days so that a staff-level agreement can be reached.
According to officials, if consensus is achieved during the ongoing talks, the SLA could be finalized by the conclusion of the current negotiations.
However, if some issues remain unresolved, the outstanding matters may be addressed through virtual discussions before the staff-level agreement is formally signed.
