Airlines Warn of Higher Airfares as Jet Fuel Prices Surge

KARACHI: Airlines have hinted at an increase in airfares as jet fuel prices have risen sharply, raising concerns that the higher operating costs could directly affect passengers travelling by air.

According to airline sources, the price of jet fuel has increased by Rs9.05 per litre over the past three days, pushing the new price to Rs355.52 per litre.

The cumulative increase of Rs9.05 per litre has been recorded since October 1, with the sudden rise raising the prospect of further increases in air ticket prices.

Aviation sources said the sharp increase in jet fuel prices had significantly raised airlines’ operational costs.

To offset the additional financial burden, various airlines have indicated that they may increase fares for both international and domestic flights.

The potential fare increase is expected to place an additional financial burden on air travellers, particularly those planning international trips.

The development comes amid continued pressure on the aviation sector from rising operating costs, with fuel prices remaining a key component of airline expenses.
